At the Pakistan-Bangladesh ICC World Cup 2023 match, four spectators from the Eden Gardens cricket stadium were arrested by Kolkata police on Tuesday for reportedly waving the Palestinian flag from the gallery.

But the police later freed the inmates without opening any formal cases.

When Bangladesh was batting in the first innings of the match versus Pakistan, the Palestinian flag was waved.

One of the inmates lived in the city’s Ekbalpore neighborhood, while the other one was from Bally, in the Howrah district, according to the police. Before going into the stadium, the other two were political workers who participated in a protest march.

“After a preliminary inquiry, all four left the Maidan police station. They are residents of Bally in Howrah and Ekbalpore and Karaya areas in Kolkata,” a senior officer was quoted as saying by the Indian local media.

Earlier, in the ICC World Cup 2023, Pakistani wicketkeeper-battler Mohammad Rizwan dedicated his team’s victory over Sri Lanka to their “brothers and sisters in Gaza.”
