The International Cricket Council (ICC) is facing scrutiny over its handling of pitch preparation at the ongoing World Cup, with allegations of favoritism towards the host nation, India.

Australian skipper Pat Cummins has expressed his faith in the ICC’s independent pitch curator, assuring that they uphold fairness for both teams. However, a recent report by Daily Mail Sport has cast doubt on this assertion.

According to the report, India allegedly changed the pitch for their semi-final match against New Zealand in Mumbai, opting for a used surface instead of a fresh one. This decision is believed to have been made to advantage India’s strong spin attack.

The ICC’s pitch consultant, Andy Atkinson, had previously agreed with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on the pitch selection for each match. However, this agreement was not honored for the semi-final, raising concerns about impartiality.

Furthermore, there are reports that India may attempt to alter the pitch for the final if they reach the match. This has prompted Atkinson to travel to Ahmedabad, the venue for the final, to monitor the situation closely.

The pitch controversy has cast a shadow over the ICC World Cup 2023, with concerns over fair play and transparency. The ICC is under pressure to address these concerns and ensure that the remaining matches are conducted in a fair and impartial manner.
