The availability of New Zealand captain Kane Williamson for Saturday’s pivotal ICC World Cup 2023 match against Pakistan will be determined following today’s fitness test during the training session in Bengaluru.

On October 13, Williamson made a hopeful return to international cricket after a protracted absence owing to a knee injury. The match was against Bangladesh.

His spectacular 78 runs and an eight-wicket triumph for his team were spoiled by an unfortunate incident that occurred during his comeback. He was hit squarely by a throw from the field during a brief single run, leaving his left glove injured and swollen.

He tried to play on, but the intensity of the anguish forced him to retire injured. His left thumb was found to have an undisplaced fracture during further medical testing, which prevented him from playing until the later rounds of the World Cup’s group stage. Tom Blundell was designated as his successor while he was away.

Before the Pakistani encounter, all-rounder James Neesham, batsman Mark Chapman, and bowler Lockie Ferguson, among other injured players, would need to clear fitness tests, according to New Zealand Cricket.

According to multiple comments released by the ICC and NZC, bowler Matt Henry was forced to withdraw from the ICC Cricket World Cup in India earlier today due to a ruptured right hamstring. Kyle Jamieson has now been added to the New Zealand roster.
