Ahmed Shehzad, a batter, is welcome to join the Pakistani national squad, according to Test captain Shan Masood’s statement on Wednesday.

Shehzad, 32, last competed for Pakistan in a Twenty20 international match against Sri Lanka in October 2019. Since then, he has not been included in the team.

But after leaving the team and playing domestic cricket for years, things are finally looking up for the gifted right-hand hitter, as a comeback to the national team could occur shortly.

At a news conference on Wednesday, Shan Masood reaffirmed that players competing in domestic cricket will have their chances of making the national squad examined.

“The doors are open for Ahmed Shehzad. Anyone who is performing in domestic cricket will be considered, we have a template of cricket we want players to be adopting and as long as they do that, they will be picked,” Shan said.

A spot in the national squad would be given consideration to everyone who is competing in domestic cricket, as Team Director Mohammad Hafeez had previously stated.

It is important to mention that Ahmed Shehzad is now leading the National T20 Cup in scoring. With an astounding 106.50 average, the right-hand hitter scored 213 runs in just three innings, assisting the Lahore Whites in making it to the Super Eight stage.

Shehzad also said that he wanted to play for Pakistan since he thought there was nothing finer.

“Obviously, all of these sacrifices are to play for Pakistan. All the money and fame aside, there is nothing better than representing Pakistan. Once you have realized what it means to play for your country, then you fight for it till death and that is what I plan,” Shehzad said in an interview with a local journalist.

“I don’t expect anything from anyone except from Allah. I always try to change the situation with my performances. Ever since I have returned from my injury, you can go and see my stats in every format, I am doing well. It is difficult to perform consistently in every tournament because you are not a machine, failure will come somewhere. So I am expecting that Allah will reward me for my performances,” said the batter.
