In a significant shake-up within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), former Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanvir has been appointed as the head of the junior selection committee. The announcement was made today by PCB, with Tanvir’s inaugural task being the selection of the Pakistan U19 squad for the 2023 ACC U19 Asia Cup in the UAE, scheduled from 8 to 17 December. Subsequently, the team will participate in the ICC U19 World Cup in Sri Lanka from 13 January to 4 February.

Tanvir, who boasts 130 wickets across formats for Pakistan, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity provided by Chairman PCB Management Committee Zaka Ashraf. “Being appointed chairman of this committee is a huge responsibility, and I am looking forward to this exciting challenge,” he stated. Tanvir emphasized his belief in the potential of young talent, outlining the committee’s goal to build a pathway for success from grassroots to the international level.

Simultaneously, former pacer Wahab Riaz has assumed the role of chief selector for the Pakistan cricket team. With 154 international matches under his belt, Riaz recently announced his retirement from international cricket. His new responsibility involves selecting the team for Australia’s upcoming Test tour.

The PCB has been proactive in restructuring the Pakistan men’s cricket team set-up in recent days. Notably, Babar Azam relinquished the captaincy across formats on November 15. The PCB confirmed Shan Masood’s appointment as the Test captain, while Shaheen Shah Afridi was named T20I captain. Mohammad Hafeez, a seasoned player, has been appointed as Team Director and head coach.

These changes mark a significant chapter in Pakistan cricket, with the PCB aiming to rejuvenate and strengthen the team across all formats. The appointments of Tanvir and Riaz are pivotal in shaping the future talent pipeline and ensuring a robust selection process for international competitions.
