In order to cover for Sergio Busquets’ absence, Barcelona is looking to add a midfield player in January. They are also taking into consideration Gavi’s absence, as he will miss the remainder of the campaign due to an ACL injury.

The 22-year-old Brazilian midfielder Andre is one of the players the Catalans are interested in signing. He is a player for Fluminense right now, and he recently helped his team defeat Boca Juniors in the Copa Libertadores final.

Andre has also openly referred to Real Madrid and Barcelona, the two dominant teams in Spain, as fantastic clubs. However, if given the choice, he would want to join Barcelona.

He was on the verge of joining Liverpool in the summer and was also recently linked to a transfer to Fulham.

According to the Spanish daily Sport, Andre is being watched carefully by Barcelona’s Sporting Director, Deco, as a possible summer possibility. With just one year remaining on his contract, Fluminense is likely to close the transaction sooner rather than later, although his price tag might be as high as €30 million.

Sport went on to say that Barcelona might consider him this winter. There may be a financing agreement with a summer purchase agreement.

Barcelona will need to carefully navigate the salary cap regulations, though. La Liga usually calculates the impact as if a loan agreement with an obligatory buy clause were just a permanent one with an extra year.

However, Flumninense will likely be looking for some security in the transfer, so they may not be persuaded by a buyout option. Given that Barcelona is not in a position to engage in a bidding battle with Fulham and Liverpool, the deal might only go through if they take a bold risk.
