‘England Sticks to Strategy Despite World Cup Upset’ says Ben Duckett
Despite their disappointing performance in the 2023 World Cup, England cricketer Ben Duckett believes there is no need for the team to alter their approach.
England, led by Jos Buttler, struggled throughout the tournament held in India and were among the first teams to be eliminated. However, Duckett believes that the team should continue to play their attacking brand of cricket.
“I don’t think there’s going to be a new approach because of how the World Cup went,” Duckett said. “If they won that World Cup, the same group of players might have been here.”
Duckett, who has been a consistent member of England’s Test lineup in recent years, expressed his discomfort witnessing England’s struggles in the World Cup.
“I watched every England game and it was tough to watch at times,” Duckett said. “I’m watching mates go out there and struggle. It was really difficult. I was playing with them a few weeks before, so it was tough. But we have watched how England have played over the past eight years and one bad five weeks does not define a team.”
Following the World Cup, England are currently on the tour of the West Indies. They will play three ODIs followed by five T20Is. Duckett has been selected for both the ODI and T20I squads.
The three ODIs are on December 3 and 6 in Antigua, and on December 9 in Barbados.
