Max Verstappen expressed his desire to see the historic Mugello circuit make a comeback to the Grand Prix racing calendar. The picturesque Italian venue, nestled in the Tuscan countryside, holds a special place in the hearts of motorsport enthusiasts with its high-speed straights, tight corners, and undulating terrain that demands bravery and precision from drivers.

Mugello, well-known for hosting MotoGP races, unexpectedly joined the Formula 1 calendar in 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation, hosting the Tuscan Grand Prix. The race saw Lewis Hamilton emerge victorious, while Verstappen faced misfortune with a startline collision that forced him to retire on the opening lap. Despite the setback, Verstappen remains a strong advocate for more traditional and enduring circuits, citing his fond memories of Mugello’s old-school charm.

“For me, Mugello,” Verstappen stated when asked about a race he would add to F1’s calendar on the podcast. He emphasized the track’s layout, praising its numerous fast corners that make driving in an F1 car a thrilling experience.

Looking ahead to the 2024 season, Verstappen, who aims to secure his fourth consecutive F1 world championship, acknowledged the unpredictable nature of each new season. While Red Bull currently holds a technical edge over rivals, the 25-year-old driver recognizes the importance of consistent performances and the role of experience in navigating the challenges of Formula 1.

“Every single year it’s a new challenge, to try and do that,” Verstappen remarked, highlighting the dynamic nature of the sport. As he sets his sights on the upcoming season, Verstappen’s wish to see Mugello return to the F1 calendar adds an exciting prospect for fans who appreciate the charm and challenges of this historic circuit.
