Iga Swiatek of Poland faced an unexpected defeat in the third round against 19-year-old Linda Noskova. The young Czech player, who secured the 2021 French Open junior title, showcased her resilience by coming back from a set down to triumph 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 and advance to the round of 16.

Following the match, Swiatek expressed her thoughts on the challenging encounter, acknowledging the difficulty she faced in reading Noskova’s serve. The Polish star recognized the similarities between Noskova’s serve and those of top players like Sabalenka and Rybakina. Despite technical challenges, Swiatek affirmed that she had no regrets and had given her best effort.

“I know I did everything I could. It was tough to read her serve. I would say she kind of serves Sabalenka’s, Rybakina’s style in terms of the placement and the speed. I would say that I wasn’t returning overall on this tournament the same way as usually, especially the second serves. But still, I know that I did everything I could. I have kind of no regrets. For sure I wish I could have played a little bit better in this tournament,” Swiatek stated.

Known for her dominance on the court, Swiatek faced a challenging start in Melbourne, including a first-set tiebreak in her opener against Sofia Kenin. Despite the hurdles, she managed a comeback in her previous match against Danielle Collins. However, Noskova proved to be a formidable opponent with three top-10 wins under her belt.

Swiatek’s 18-match win streak, dating back to October 1, was brought to an end with this defeat. The Polish sensation, who boasts three French Open titles and a U.S. Open victory, had aimed for a strong performance in the Australian Open, where her best result was reaching the semi-finals in 2022.

Having been the last top-10 player remaining in the top half of the women’s draw, Swiatek’s unexpected exit adds an intriguing twist to the tournament and highlights the competitive nature of women’s tennis at the highest level.
