Rashid Latif, a former captain of Pakistan, is one of the candidates for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairperson, as per reports.

In a meeting with the members today, Zaka Ashraf announced his resignation as PCB Management Committee chairman. He declared that he has chosen to submit his resignation to Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, his patron, as chairman and member of the MC.

In his farewell speech, he expressed gratitude to the PCB Patron for his confidence and trust, as well as his best wishes and prayers for the advancement of Pakistani cricket.

Shah Khawar, the Chief Election Commissioner, is reportedly considering taking over the PCB till the general elections. Najam Sethi, Latif, Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera, and Mustafa Ramday are other deserving contenders for the chairmanship.

On July 6, Ashraf was elected to the PCB Board of Governors and took over as Chairman, succeeding Najam Sethi in that capacity.

“I was working for the betterment of cricket but it is not possible for us to work in this way,” he said as per the people present at the committee meeting.

“Now it is up to Prime Minister [Kakar], whomever he nominates [will take my place],” he added.

The Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination requested that the PCB Management Committee meeting in Karachi be postponed earlier this week.

The establishment of BOG was one of the other items on the meeting’s agenda.

Recall that in November 2023, Kakar had granted a three-month extension to the tenure of the Ashraf-led Management Committee. The first week of February marked the end of the term.
