Brenda Fruhvirtova
At Melbourne Park on Sunday, Brenda Fruhvirtova defeated Ana Bogdan with a resounding victory to begin her Australian Open 2024 campaign.
Born in 2007, Fruhvirtova easily won eight of her nine games to score her first Slam victory of 2024. She also became the youngest player to win an Australian Open singles main draw match since 2020, defeating Coco Gauff.
The 16-year-old Czech player had to make her way through the qualifying rounds in order to get into the main event, but she defeated every opponent she faced with relative ease, securing a ticket in the Australian Open main draw in 2024 with a number of young talents.

Three sixteen-year-old players are trying to leave their legacy in the women’s draw. After winning in the first round, Fruhvirtova has already altered the record books.
The teenager had a tight opening to the match as she found it difficult to trouble her opponent during returns and had issues serving. Bogdan won the opening set 6-2 as a result of this.
But as the game went on, the young athlete proved why she is one of the best in her generation. At the start of the second set, she broke her opponent, but she lost the break right away. The Romanian was getting close to winning at 4–4, having a break point and going up 5–4.
Fruhvirtova avoided that situation with a stunning run of points, winning seven of the following eight rallies to take the second set 6-4.
The Czech player controlled the third set after winning the second set to send the match into a decider. She quickly grabbed a 5-1 lead, but it was difficult for her to finish the match; it took three games and five match points to win.
With a final score of 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, Fruhvirtova became the youngest woman to win a singles main draw match in Melbourne since Coco Gauff in 2020 and achieved her maiden Grand Slam main tournament victory.
