The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is struggling to secure a coach. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is keen on hiring a foreign head coach, but plans for the assistant coaches to be Pakistani.

Negotiations were reportedly underway with former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson for an annual deal worth $2 million, but these fell through when details were leaked to the media, according to Mohsin Naqvi.

The board also reached out to former English coach Andy Flower and Islamabad United’s championship-winning coach Mike Hesson, but both declined.

Darren Sammy was unavailable due to his contract with the West Indian Board, and former Australian cricketer Simon Katich also turned down the offer. Discussions with Justin Langer have not yielded any positive results yet.

Interestingly, the board does not seem interested in placing their former stars in top positions. It has been confirmed by sources close to Azhar Mahmood, who lives in England, and Saqlain Mushtaq, that they have not been contacted.

Matthew Hayden, who has previously been associated with the team, has also been approached by the board. It appears that many coaches are unavailable due to commitments in the IPL. However, the board remains optimistic about making some positive headway next week.
