Shaheen Shah Afridi Declines Pakistan Vice-Captaincy Offer
Pakistan’s fast bowler, Shaheen Afridi, shared a mysterious message on his official Instagram account on Friday, following his sudden removal from his role as the T20I captain of the Pakistan cricket team.
Afridi took over the T20I captaincy after Babar Azam decided to resign from all formats of captaincy following Pakistan’s early exit from the 2023 ODI World Cup.
His tenure as captain began with a disappointing 4-1 series loss to New Zealand on their home turf earlier this year. However, his stint as leader was abruptly ended after just one series, with Babar Azam being reinstated as the white-ball captain of Pakistan on March 31.
Sources indicate that Afridi was dissatisfied with the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) communication regarding his removal from the captaincy. The 23-year-old was also upset by a statement released after his removal from the T20I captaincy, which included words that he had not authorized or spoken. The PCB acknowledged this error and informed Afridi that it was an internal mistake.
Afridi posted a cryptic story on Instagram, which seemed to serve as a warning, suggesting Afridi’s readiness to reveal a side of himself that others may not expect, should his patience be pushed to its limit.
Shaheen’s story read: “Never ever ever put me in a position where I have to show you how cruel and ruthless I can be. Don’t test my patience. Because I might be the kindest and sweetest person you’ve ever met, but once I reach my limit, you’ll see me do the things that no one thought I was capable of doing.”
Despite feeling unfairly removed from the captaincy, Afridi has expressed his intention to move past the incident.
