Sanju Samson
In the IPL 2024 match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, Sanju Samson’s notable performance for the Rajasthan Royals against the Delhi Capitals ended in dispute. The Royals were chasing a target of 222 runs. Samson, who had already scored five half-centuries this season, was leading the difficult chase aggressively. He was declared out in the 16th over after scoring 86 runs off 46 balls, with Shai Hope making a challenging catch at the long-on boundary.
Samson hit a length ball from Mukesh Kumar deep into the field, and Hope caught it while trying to keep his balance near the boundary cushion. The on-field umpires immediately referred the decision to the third umpire. Despite some angles suggesting that Hope might have touched the cushion, TV umpire Michael Gough quickly declared Samson out.
Samson, the captain of Rajasthan, who was already halfway to the dugout, returned to have a heated discussion with the on-field umpires. He even signaled for a DRS review of the TV umpire’s decision, but he was eventually declared out.
Despite Samson’s valiant effort of 86 runs, the Rajasthan Royals fell short by 20 runs in their chase of 222. The Royals lost both their opening batsmen during the powerplay, but Samson kept the victory within reach until his controversial dismissal by Mukesh Kumar.
Here’s how netizens reacted
