In the T20 World Cup 2024’s first game, the USA triumphed over Canada with a comfortable seven-wicket win at Dallas’ Grand Prairie Stadium.

Aaron Jones was the star for the USA, hammering an aggressive 94 off just 40 deliveries, including 10 sixes, propelling his team to reach the 195-run goal in a mere 17.4 overs.

The USA’s innings began tentatively, falling to 42 for 2 by the seventh over after losing openers Steven Taylor and Monank Patel.

At that critical juncture, Andries Gous joined Jones, and together they crafted a game-changing 131-run partnership in just 58 balls.

Gous contributed a solid 65 off 46 balls, hitting seven boundaries and three sixes.

Earlier, Canada set a challenging score of 194 for 5, having been put into bat by the USA.

Canadian openers Navneet Dhaliwal and Nicholas Kirton both hit half-centuries, laying a strong foundation for their team’s total.

Dhaliwal made a significant 61 from 44 balls, while Kirton chipped in with a quick 51 from 31 deliveries.

Shreyas Movva’s explosive unbeaten 32 off 16 balls added late momentum to Canada’s innings.

For the USA, Ali Khan, Harmeet Singh, and Corey Anderson each claimed a wicket.

The USA-Canada match-up is steeped in history, being the longest-standing cricket rivalry, dating back to the first international cricket match in 1844 in New York.

Both teams are competing in Group A of the T20 World Cup, alongside cricket heavyweights India, Pakistan, and Ireland.
