Ex-Pakistan fast bowler Tanveer Ahmed has openly criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) choice to nominate the iconic fast bowler and ex-coach Waqar Younis for a new position.

Waqar is on track to become an advisor to PCB chairman, Mohsin, effective from August 1, 2024.

In his new advisory capacity, Waqar will directly report to the chairman and will have oversight responsibilities for both the red-ball and white-ball squads. The incumbent head coaches, Gary Kirsten for the white-ball and Jason Gillespie for the red-ball, will be answerable to Waqar.

Tanveer Ahmed voiced his objection to Waqar’s impending appointment on social media.

He labeled the decision to appoint Waqar as the most detrimental in the annals of Pakistan cricket.

Tanveer articulated on platform X: “Waqar Younis ko cricket board main job dena meri nazar main history ka sab say worst decision hain. (Appointing Waqar Younis to a role in the board is, in my view, the worst decision in the history of cricket.”

Waqar is also expected to work in conjunction with the Pakistan selection committee, which has been the subject of recent controversy.
