Ex-cricketer Salman Butt has suggested Shan Masood for the captaincy role across all formats for Pakistan.

Masood, who is the Test skipper, faced a series whitewash in his captaincy debut against Australia.

Babar Azam, leading the ODI and T20I sides, is facing scrutiny after Pakistan’s unexpected early departure from the T20 World Cup 2024, failing to advance past the group stage for the first time.

Butt, on his YouTube channel, recommended Shan for the leadership role in all formats, citing a need for change due to the current captains’ attitudes.

“There is some fuss because of which despite having skill, players haven’t been able to execute. There is someone who doesn’t have any strategy for planning, but still has a lot of attitude. To silence that attitude, I would definitely make Shan Masood the captain,” said Butt.

“I would do that for some time at least. Something like that needs to be done for some time. Pakistan have constantly backed certain players who have their own inner circles. So, you need someone who stands higher than all these groups and friendships,” he continued.

Masood is also leading Yorkshire in England’s County Championship and the Karachi Kings in the PSL.

Babar previously relinquished his captaincy roles after a disappointing ODI World Cup, and Shaheen Afridi briefly took over the T20I captaincy before being replaced. However, with Mohsin Naqvi’s appointment as PCB chairman, Babar was reinstated as the white-ball captain.
