DUBAI: The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 kicks off tomorrow in the UAE, featuring 10 teams competing over an 18-day tournament.

The Pakistan women’s team, captained by Fatima Sana, has been placed in Group ‘A’ alongside Australia, India, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. Group ‘B’ includes Bangladesh, England, Scotland, South Africa, and the West Indies.

Pakistan will start their campaign against Sri Lanka tomorrow at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. They will face off against arch-rivals India on October 6 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS) and then challenge the defending champions, Australia, on October 11 at DICS. Their final group match will be against New Zealand on October 14, also at DICS.

The tournament format allows the top two teams from each group to advance to the semi-finals, scheduled for October 17 and 18, with the final set for October 20.

In preparation for the tournament, Pakistan participated in two warm-up matches against Scotland and Bangladesh, along with multiple practice sessions to adapt to local conditions.

Captain Fatima Sana expressed confidence in her team’s preparation, stating, “We have prepared well for the mega event. The series against South Africa at home before coming to the UAE helped us understand our strengths and allowed our batters to demonstrate their form. The two practice games have also aided us in assessing the conditions here and have provided clarity regarding the right player combinations for the tournament.”
