The Australian women’s cricket team, the defending champions, secured a dominant victory over Pakistan, winning by nine wickets in the 14th match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Chasing a modest target of 83 runs, Australia lost just one wicket, comfortably reaching the target with 54 balls to spare. The only dismissal came from Beth Mooney, who scored 15 runs off 15 balls before returning to the dugout.

Captain Alyssa Healy led the Australian batting with an impressive performance, scoring 37 runs off 23 balls, including five fours, before retiring hurt in the 10th over due to cramps. Ellyse Perry joined her at the crease, contributing to the steady chase. Perry finished unbeaten on 22 runs off 23 balls, while Ashleigh Gardner added seven runs to seal the victory.

Earlier, Pakistan struggled with the bat after being put in to bat first, managing only 83 runs in their innings. The team lost half of its batting lineup within the first 10 overs, with stand-in captain Muneeba Ali scoring just seven runs. Aliya Riaz was the top scorer for Pakistan with 26 runs off 32 balls.

Australia’s bowlers were in fine form, with Ashleigh Gardner taking four wickets, while Annabel Sutherland and Georgia Wareham claimed two wickets each. Sophie Molineux and Megan Schutt each chipped in with one wicket, ensuring Pakistan’s innings ended on the second last ball, at 82 runs.
