KARACHI: The National Bank Cricket Stadium is undergoing significant upgrades as preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy enter their final phase. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently visited the venue to assess the progress of renovations, which include a new multi-story building and enhanced facilities for spectators.

During his visit, Naqvi inspected the four floors of the under-construction building, reviewed the finishing work, and issued directives for constructing enclosures in the new structure. He also announced the installation of new LED lights on stadium poles, promising fans a unique laser light show—an unprecedented feature in Pakistan’s cricket history.

Additionally, both scoreboards are being elevated to ensure unobstructed views for spectators. “Raising the scoreboards will ensure a better viewing experience for cricket enthusiasts, avoiding any inconvenience during matches,” stated Naqvi.

The PCB chairman emphasized the importance of timely project completion and maintaining high standards. He directed contractors to expedite their efforts, ensuring that the stadium is fully ready for the Champions Trophy. “Preparations for the Champions Trophy tournament are in full swing, and we must ensure the timely completion of the project with utmost dedication,” he added.

For improved spectator convenience, Naqvi proposed relocating parking areas closer to the stadium and suggested a review of plans to construct a safety trench between the ground and seating areas.

Officials from the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), tasked with the renovations, briefed Naqvi on the project’s progress. He urged them to meet all quality benchmarks and adhere to the set timeline.

The visit was attended by the PCB’s Director of Infrastructure, the stadium manager, and senior FWO officials, who reiterated their commitment to completing the upgrades promptly. Following the successful revamp of Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Karachi’s upgrades aim to further elevate Pakistan’s cricket infrastructure.
