Jason Gillespie has resigned from his role as the head coach of Pakistan men’s cricket team’s red-ball format. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Aaqib Javed as the interim head coach.

Aaqib Javed’s first task will be to lead the team during the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa, which is part of Pakistan’s ongoing all-format tour.

The first Test is scheduled at SuperSport Park in Centurion from December 26 to 30, followed by the second Test at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town from January 3 to 7.

Reports suggest that Gillespie’s resignation was due to personal reasons and his decision not to travel to South Africa. Additionally, sources reveal that his dissatisfaction with the non-renewal of Tim Nielsen’s contract played a role in his departure.

Gillespie was supposed to arrive in South Africa earlier to oversee the pre-Test camp but made a sudden decision to step down.

The Pakistan team is currently in South Africa, playing a three-match T20I series, followed by a three-match ODI series before the Test matches begin.

Aaqib Javed’s appointment as interim head coach aims to provide stability and leadership as the team prepares for the crucial Test series against South Africa.

The PCB is expected to make further announcements regarding the appointment of a permanent head coach after the tour.
