The 2025 Champions Trophy will be played under a hybrid model, as confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC), ending months of discussions between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). According to ESPNcricinfo, both boards have reached an agreement on how the tournament will be hosted.

Under the hybrid model, all of India’s matches in the eight-team Champions Trophy will be played at a neutral venue, while Pakistan’s matches in events hosted by India will also be held at a neutral location.

This agreement marks a significant milestone, as it would be the first time in four years that Pakistan will host an ICC event.

The ICC has also granted Pakistan the right to host the 2028 Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be the first ICC event in the next cricketing cycle. ESPNcricinfo reports that this hybrid model could also apply to the Women’s T20 World Cup.

The details of this agreement have been finalized and are set to undergo a vote by the ICC board. According to the new formula, during the 2024-2027 event cycle, all matches involving India in tournaments hosted by Pakistan will be played at a neutral venue. Similarly, all matches involving Pakistan in events hosted by India will also be held at neutral venues.

This agreement applies to several upcoming tournaments, including the 2025 men’s Champions Trophy in Pakistan, the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup in India, and the 2026 men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has assured that more details about the 2025 Champions Trophy will be revealed soon.
