Pakistan-India Champions Trophy Match Officially Set for Dubai?
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has assured broadcasters that the much-anticipated Pakistan-India Champions Trophy match will be held in Dubai. However, discussions around the “Partnership or Fusion Formula” remain unresolved, leaving room for further deliberation.
Although PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was in Dubai on Thursday, no official ICC council meeting took place. Reports indicate that Naqvi met informally with ICC Chief Jay Shah, and an online board meeting scheduled for Saturday is expected to address pending issues.
During the ICC Broadcast Workshop held in Dubai, participants were explicitly informed that the Pakistan-India match would take place in Dubai, dispelling earlier uncertainties. However, Pakistan’s state television did not send any representatives to the workshop.
The tournament schedule has yet to be finalized, with unresolved concerns surrounding the “Partnership or Fusion Formula.” This arrangement proposes that all Pakistan-India matches in ICC events over the next three years be played in Dubai, irrespective of the host country. India’s stance suggests that its team may play all its ICC matches in the UAE, including semi-finals and finals, if they qualify.
Pakistan seeks a reciprocal agreement, advocating for neutral venues for matches in ICC events hosted by India. The PCB remains hopeful for a positive outcome, with Saturday’s board meeting likely to play a crucial role in resolving these matters.
