India announces squad for Champions Trophy 2025
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled the squad for the upcoming ODI series against England and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on Saturday.
Rohit Sharma will lead the team in both competitions, while injured pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been included in the Champions Trophy squad. Harshit Rana has been named as Bumrah’s backup for the England ODI series.
Spinner Kuldeep Yadav, recovering from hernia surgery in November, has also secured a spot in the Champions Trophy squad despite fitness concerns. Meanwhile, seasoned pacer Mohammed Shami, who recently played in the T20I series against England, has been included in the Champions Trophy lineup.
India’s chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, explained the move, saying “Shami has played most of the Syed Mushtaq Ali games and some of the Vijay Hazare games,”
“To get him involved in T20Is is mainly to get him up to pace in international cricket, and we are hoping he is at 100% when it comes to Champions Trophy matches.”
The ICC Champions Trophy’s ninth edition begins on 19 February, with defending champions and hosts Pakistan facing New Zealand in the opening match at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium.
The eight-team tournament, featuring 15 matches over 19 days, will take place across Pakistan and Dubai. In Pakistan, games will be hosted in Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi. Lahore is set to host the second semi-final and, potentially, the final on 9 March—unless India qualifies, in which case the final will be moved to Dubai.
The group stage will include three India matches, all scheduled in Dubai, along with the first semi-final. Reserve days are set for both semi-finals and the final.
