Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed was among the prominent names left unpicked in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 player draft held on Monday.

Sarfaraz, a cornerstone of the Quetta Gladiators since the league’s inception, was released by the team earlier this month. Despite speculations of a reunion, the wicketkeeper-batter announced his departure from the franchise a day before the draft.

Fans hoped Karachi Kings, Sarfaraz’s hometown team, would select him, but sources revealed he was not part of their plans. Ultimately, no franchise opted for the 37-year-old veteran.

New Zealand’s Tim Southee, placed in the platinum category, also went unpicked, as did Pakistan’s rising pacer Ihsanullah, who had a standout performance in PSL 2023 with 22 wickets for Multan Sultans.

England’s Jason Roy, the record-holder for the highest individual PSL score, and Alex Hales also failed to find teams. Other international stars, including Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, and South Africa’s Tabraiz Shamsi, remained unsold.

The absence of such high-profile players in PSL 10 has sparked debates among fans and analysts, raising questions about team strategies and player preferences.
