Shakib Al Hasan excluded from Bangladesh’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad

DHAKA: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced its 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 on Sunday, notably excluding veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.

Shakib, recently banned from bowling in competitions under the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), was sidelined following an independent re-assessment of his bowling action that raised concerns over its legality. Although eligible to play as a specialist batter, the selectors chose not to include him in the squad.

Additionally, Bangladesh will be without former captain Tamim Iqbal, who retired from international cricket despite appeals from white-ball captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and other teammates urging him to reconsider.

Experienced campaigners Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah have been included in the squad, providing leadership and balance with their vast experience.

The ICC Champions Trophy is set to begin on February 19, with defending champions and hosts Pakistan facing New Zealand in the opening match at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium.
