The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that fast bowler Haris Rauf will miss Pakistan’s second match in the ongoing tri-nation ODI series against South Africa. The match is scheduled for Wednesday at the National Bank Stadium.

Rauf sustained a muscular sprain in the lower chest during Pakistan’s opening match against New Zealand. As a precautionary measure, he will be rested for the upcoming game.

However, the injury is not serious, and he is expected to recover in time for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, which will be held in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9.

In an official statement, the PCB stated, “Following MRI and X-ray scans, it has been confirmed that Haris Rauf sustained a muscular sprain in the lower chest wall region. The injury is not serious, and he is expected to be fully recovered for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. However, as a precaution, he will not be available for selection against South Africa on February 12.”

During the match against New Zealand, Rauf left the field in the 38th over due to discomfort. His absence weakened Pakistan’s bowling attack, which struggled in the final overs. Glenn Phillips took advantage of this and played a crucial knock, helping New Zealand post a strong total.

Pakistan eventually lost the match by 78 runs, with Rauf also unable to bat. His absence in the next match will be a concern for the team, but his recovery remains the top priority ahead of the major tournament next year.
