Former New Zealand Test cricketer and television commentator Simon Doull has deemed Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, to be the best batsman in the world at the present time.

Doull stated during the third Test between England and New Zealand at Headingley, Leeds, that Babar’s top-order batting was magnificent.

“Not many could argue that Babar Azam is the best player in the world at the moment. As far as batting in that top order is concerned, he is unbelievable. Joe Root’s got an argument for that too. They talk about the big four, at the moment, he’s the big one,” Doull was quoted as saying.

Currently, the 27-year-old is the top-ranked batsman in both ODIs and T20Is, while his Test ranking is fourth.

Babar recently established a record for scoring 1000 runs in 13 innings as a captain, adding to his vast list of achievements. The captain surpassed India’s Virat Kohli, who reached the record in 2017 in 17 innings.
