Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) informed the cabinet secretariat of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee that more than 9 million websites have been blocked in the country.

Chairman PTA Major General (R) Amir Azim Bajwa during the meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee told that more than 9 million websites have been blocked in Pakistan.

Some blocked web sites may be accessed using the technology, sources said.

Chairman PTA claims that despite many difficulties, the authority is ensuring the safety of users’ data.

Moreover, standing committee members have said that PTA has stolen data from social media accounts.

It must also play an important role in curbing hate speech and religious hatred, as well as helping improve mobile phone services.

Earlier, Pakistan government blocks over 9.4 lakh websites under PTA act over objectionable content.

In the official statement issued by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, it has been observed that regulator has blocked 941,000 websites for containing objectionable content.

According to the official numbers issued by PTA, 830,000 pornographic websites, 50,000 websites for hosting anti-judiciary content, about 50,000 web-pages for blasphemous content and 11000 websites have been blocked for promoting anti-state content.
