WhatsApp has authenticated that it will start showing ads to its users which are 1.5billion in total – and customers are not happy with the news.

Advertisements will begin to pop up in “Status”, WhatsApp’s version of Instagram or Snapchat Stories, after this year.

The Facebook-possessed company has not revealed any precise launch date till now but vice president Chris Daniels has confirmed the strategy last year.

While talking to a reporter in November Daniels informed:” We are going to be putting ads in ‘Status’,” 

“That is going to be primary monetization mode for the company as well as an opportunity for businesses to reach people on WhatsApp.”

Infamous tech leaker Matt Navarra unfolded the news of the feature previous May.

WhatsApp will start showing its users ads later this year.

He also updated photos of the adverts, revealed while a slideshow at a seminar in Germany, on Twitter. One of the slides showed that ads were coming in 2020.

Navarra’s tweet intensified a heated response from WhatsApp customers.

“Nice. I’m sure half the users will switch over to Telegram,” one user tweeted.

In addition, a Twitter user commented: “Alright, well, goodbye WhatsApp.

“Why the heck does Facebook think this is a good idea? People use WhatsApp for professional contacts and Facebook for pleasure. ‘I don’t want ads. I’d rather pay $50 a year to use it ad-free, same as always. Idiots.”

Facebook purchased WhatsApp in 2014for £17billion. It has since been on a charge to monetize the immensely admired service.

The resolution to overflow the app with ads was seemingly followed by a vivid split between Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg and the founders of WhatsApp’s, Brian Acton and Jan Koum.
