In a major technological development, search engine google removed the Indian eCommerce app Paytm from the Playstore for violating rules.

According to the details, Paytm is an eCommerce app through which users can exchange money with one another. However, the app disappeared from the Play Store in India on Friday.

Paytm is India’s most business valued app. The app has over 50 million monthly active users.

According to TechCrunch, an American online publisher focusing on the tech industry, the move of removing the Paytm app has come after repeated violations of the company’s policies.

The report, citing the people familiar with the matter said that Paytm has been removed from the play store a day before the Indian Premier League is scheduled to start.

Suzanne Frey, the Vice President of product at Android Security and Privacy, in a blog post said that the company doesn’t facilitate any unregulated gambling apps.

“We have these policies to protect users from potential harm. When an app violates these policies, we notify the developer of the violation and remove the app from google play store until the developer brings the app into compliance,” wrote Frey.

She added that where there are repeated policy violations, they take a more serious action which may include terminating Google Play Developer accounts permanently. She further wrote that the company policies are applied and enforced on all developers consistently.
