Twitter has launched a new ‘fleets’ feature that involves story-like posts that last for only 24 hours.

The feature introduces ephemeral, which will allow users to post texts, photos, videos, and tweets for a day. It was first announced and tested earlier this year.

However, users seemed to be clueless about ‘fleets’, as Twitter does not appear to notify users when the other user reposts one of their tweets in the fleet. Sharing the tweet is easy, as you are given an option to share the tweet in the fleet, along with other sharing and messaging options.

Twitter’s Joshua Harris and Sam Haveson wrote about ‘fleets’ in a blog post. They said that fleets were meant to be a “lower pressure way for people to talk about what’s happening” that would make it so that “everyone can easily join the conversation in a new way.” They claimed in the post that through tests in Brazil, Italy, India, and South Korea, Twitter found that fleets made it easier for users to share their thoughts, feelings, and opinions.

However, the feature got criticism due to the unavailability of notifications when someone else shares your tweet.

“In case of brigading or influx, it’d be nice to see whose fleet led to such scenario,” technology blogger Jane Manchun Wong wrote in a tweet.

Fleet reports could permit the users to direct their followers towards another person’s account. Instagram also appears to allow users to share posts without notifying.
