Small unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) will be allowed to fly over people and at night in the United States of America (USA), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said, a significant step toward their use for extensive commercial deliveries.

As per reports, FAA is planning on applying its long-awaited rules for drones, which are also known as unmanned aerial vehicles.

These new regulations will address security concerns by requiring remote identification technology in most cases. This will enable remote identification of the drone from the ground. At the moment, small drone operations over people were limited in the US.

Drone users could only fly a drone over people that are directly participating in the operations or are located under a covered structure, or inside a stationary vehicle. The only exception was based on receiving a waiver from the FAA.

The new rules will take effect 60 days after its publication in the federal register in January 2021; after which, drone makers have about 18 months to begin the production of drones with Remote ID built-in. Operators and users of drones will have another year on top of this to provide Remote ID.
