The Chief Executive Officer CEO of social media giant Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg; held an important meeting with the Australian law officials over new media rules proposed by the country.

According to the media reports, Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said on Sunday that, a constructive discussion was held with the social media billionaire over the new media low that would make internet giants pay news outlets for content.

However, the Treasurer said that the Facebook CEO had failed to persuade Australian lawmakers to the change in policy.

But, a Facebook spokeswoman in Australia said the company’s executives regularly meet with government stakeholders on a range of topics.

Back on the 22^nd of this month, the tech giant Google warned to shut down its search in Australia citing concerns on the new payment law.

It is pertinent to mention here that Canberra intends to introduce a law that would force Facebook, the world’s largest social media platform, and internet search giant Google Inc. to negotiate payments to media companies whose content drives traffic to their websites.

If the parties cannot agree on payments, a government-appointed arbitrator will set the fees for them.

Google and Facebook have opposed the new Australian law.
