Bitcoin Jesus says Twitter’s CEO will end censorship on this platform

Bitcoin Jesus has returned. After a year of social media seclusion, Roger Ver, known for his evangelical-like lobbying, is the latest crypto pioneer to publicly back Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter.

Ver, like many of the early cyberpunks and libertarians who gravitated to Twitter while helping to popularise cryptocurrency, expressed optimism in an interview that Musk will stop “censorship” on the social media network.

Musk’s impending purchase, according to Coinbase Global Inc. CEO Brian Armstrong, is a “great win for free speech.”

“It’ll certainly make Twitter more attractive,” said. “I am really, really grateful that Musk is out there calling out censorship.”

Despite the fact that he is still known by his nickname, Ver, 43, has been a critic of the largest cryptocurrency for some time because he believes it has strayed from its initial goal as an alternative currency. And he doesn’t agree with many of the current high-profile proponents, including MicroStrategy Inc. CEO Michael Saylor.

“He talks about how Bitcoin is encrypted packets — it’s techno-bubble nonsense,” Ver said.

Ver is now a supporter of Dogecoin, Musk’s preferred cryptocurrency. Musk referred to Dogecoin as “the people’s crypto,” and Ver claimed it is also faster and less expensive to use than Bitcoin.

“Dogecoin is significantly better,” Ver said. “It’s cheaper and more reliable. If I had to pick three contenders [for the world’s dominant cryptocurrency], they would be Doge, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash.”

The sentiments are a long way from where Ver began. After finding Bitcoin in 2011, when it was trading for less than $1, Ver would talk about it at MeetUps and backyard barbecues before moving on to conference stages when Bitcoin took off.
