Ericsson and Intel launched a collaborative tech centre in the United States to push the limit on cloud RAN and network virtualization advancements.

The Ericsson-Intel Tech Hub is actively working on cloud RAN containerised network function (CNF) applications as well as power management and performance.

Cloud RAN is a cloud-native software solution that promises to increase network security, agility, and flexibility for operators.

The tech centre will  “showcase how a virtualised RAN can deliver greater levels of automation, agility, and sustainability,” according to Dan Rodriguez, corporate VP and GM of Intel’s Network Platforms Group.

The corporations claim that the centre will supplement their current R & D efforts by allowing them to create products over several years.

The hub, according to Ericsson, is the latest stage in the continuing cloud RAN migration that began in 2020.

The vendor unveiled Open Lab in 2021, a facility to accelerate the development of virtualized 5G RAN technology, with Intel as one of the first partners.
