Daniel Horenstein, a former astronomy professor, will operate the Buhl Planetarium & Observatory at the Carnegie Science Center.

His research interests include planetary system formation, machine learning in astronomy, and science education.

Horenstein served as the Tessmann Planetarium Director and Assistant Professor of Astronomy at Santa Ana College. Before he got his current job as Co-Chair of the Physics and Astronomy Department, he worked in a different field. At the conclusion of his fourth year, he was promoted to the position of associate professor in the department of astronomy and subsequently granted tenure.
