Facebook worked on a lot of initiatives that were eventually shelved. One of these is a long-defunct smartwatch that never saw the light of day. It’s unknown why this smartwatch was shelved, but fresh facts emerged that reveal what might have been.

Meta Milan was the codename for the smartwatch in question, and it was under development for two years. It was supposed to be released in 2023, but Meta revealed earlier this week that it was scrapping the project.

A supposed prototype of the Meta smartwatch now surfaces online, revealing its look as well as some of its specs.

The dial on the prototype watch is removable and may be charged individually on a charging port. The case has two buttons, and the watch has two cameras (5MP + 12MP), which is unusual for smartwatches. The front camera is a 5MP sensor, while the back camera is a 12MP sensor. You can take images at any moment by removing the dial.

The wristwatch was expected to include a number of capabilities, including built-in support for WhatsApp, Spotify One, Instagram Stories, GPS, cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity, and more. A set of basic health and fitness trackers would also be included, as well as up to 18 hours of battery life on a single charge.

It is unknown whether it will be released in the future, but it was believed to cost $350 at launch.
