One of the most common complaints about Windows 11 is its lack of privacy. Thankfully, Microsoft has addressed these concerns in earlier versions of Windows, and Windows 11 is likely to acquire a useful new privacy feature as well.

Windows 10 is beta-testing a new privacy tool that will show you which of your applications are accessing sensitive hardware like your microphone or webcam. This will allow you to keep a watch on any suspicious apps that are using your microphone or camera.

Privacy Auditing is the name of the program, which was demonstrated on Twitter by Microsoft’s VP of Enterprise and OS Security, David Weston. The capability is currently available in a new Windows 11 preview release.

Settings > Privacy & security > App permissions is where you’ll find the new utility. It displays a summary of your recent activities as well as which apps used your camera or microphone in the preceding week. It also keeps track of which apps have accessed your contacts or other sensitive information like your location or phone conversations.

It also shows you the precise time and date when your apps contacted your hardware.

As previously said, the feature is currently in development, thus it is uncertain when it will be available to everyone worldwide. In any event, we’ll keep this page updated.
