Samsung ISOCELL HP3 full specification: Samsung ISOCELL HP3 officially launched with a new 200 MP sensor.
It features the “smallest pixel in the industry” at 0.56 m, which is 12 percent smaller than its predecessor. It claims faster auto-focus and even sharper HDR thanks to a new picture stacking technique.
The new sensor arrived nine months after the ISOCELL HP1, making it the first 200MP camera sensor for smartphones, despite the fact that we have not yet seen a phone using this sensor. Since then, Samsung has decreased the pixel size from 0.64 μm, making the new sensor almost 20% smaller than its predecessor.
The 4-to-1 binning results in a total of 1.12m1.12μm pixels for 50MP images. The new sensor also supports 16-to-1 binning for ultra-dark photographs, allowing for large 2.24μm pixels and 12.5 MP images.
Samsung also boasted of their Super-QPD autofocus system. Each cluster of four pixels is equipped with a single lens capable of detecting phase changes in the horizontal and vertical axes. The sensor can also record 8K footage at 30fps and 4K videos at 120fps with little field of vision degradation.
The enhanced Smart-ISO Pro function now combines data from the low, medium, and high ISO modes to increase HDR performance. ISOCELL HP3 can produce images with four quadrillion colours (14-bit depth), 64 times more than its predecessor HP1, which could only produce 68 billion colours.
Samsung is prepared to give smartphone makers with ISOCELL HP3 samples and expects mass production to commence this year.
