South Korea successfully launched its homemade space rocket, Nuri. And paved the groundwork for further ambitious space programs.

The 200-ton Nuri space rocket launched on June 21 from Naro Space Center in Goheung. An hour later, the science minister termed the launch a “monumental milestone” in the nation’s scientific and technical history.

S Korea became the sixth nation to launch a 1-tonne satellite using homegrown technology. Russia, Europe, Japan, China, and India can accomplish it.
