There has been an increase in inflation since the new government took office. Since the emergence of this new wave of inflation, various elements of society have been negatively impacted.

Representatives of cellular mobile companies (Telenor and Jazz) met with members of the Finance Ministry; to examine how the withholding tax could be reduced.

A group led by Aamir Ibrahim, CEO of Jazz, and Irfan Wahab Khan, CEO of Telenor Pakistan met with Miftah Ismail, Federal Minister of Finance and Revenue. It was requested at the conference that the withholding tax on key telecom services be reduced to 8%; as this is critical for a digital Pakistan.

The meeting was also attended by Chairman PTA, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and other senior officers; in addition to Finance and Revenue Federal Minister Syed Amin-ul-Haq, IT and Telecommunication Federal Minister Syed Amin-ul-Haq, Chairman PTA, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and other senior officers.

A presentation was delivered on the importance and contribution of the information technology sector to Pakistan’s economic development. The problem of profitability was considered among the other challenges encountered by the sector in current era.

Given the importance of IT and telecommunications to exports and overall GDP growth; the delegation proposed that taxes on items in the aforementioned industry be reduced, since they barely fall into the category of luxury goods.
