Microsoft will soon have Viva Engage, which is similar to Facebook. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella made the announcement. He said that the company plans to start its own social media platform as part of Microsoft Teams.

The goal of Viva Engage is to improve on what Microsoft’s Yammer Communities used to offer. Murali Sitaram, the CVP of Yammer and Viva, says the goal is to give people “new ways to connect with each other, find and share knowledge, express themselves, and feel like they belong at work.”

Viva Engage will be more like LinkedIn than Twitter or Facebook because it will be focused on business.

“It is set to help organizations build community, spark engagement with leadership, harness knowledge and answers, and build personal networks”

Viva will replace the section of Teams called “Communities” that is already there. It will be released in “late August.” It will be available in all versions of Microsoft Teams, including mobile apps, web apps, and desktop apps.

People who already use the Communities tab won’t have to do anything because the switch will happen on its own.

Teams is replacing Yammer, but you will still be able to use it in browsers and mobile apps. In the new Viva Engage tab, you can still see everything that was posted on Yammer.

Microsoft says it has “much more to share soon,” so we can expect more updates for Teams and other companies  products in the future.
