Logitech is back in the VR hardware business with the launch of its new Chorus audio solution for the Meta Quest 2 on Wednesday.

Logitech’s senior manager of acoustics engineering, Matt Green, said in a statement that this new add-on is made to offer “the realistic audio that gamers want with the comfort and convenience that  people need.”

The Chorus uses “custom-tuned off-ear acoustics” from open-backed, rotating speakers that sit alongside the wearer’s ears.

Logitech believes the open-air design and near-field sound reproduction provide the best comfort, sound replication, and realism.

It provides a little seclusion, though. So, maybe don’t use VR Chat near Granny.

Logitech wants the Chorus to blend into the Quest 2’s design without affecting its functionality.

The Chorus uses the headset’s USB-C port to power its audio output while offering a pass-through port for charging and data. The Chorus could live on the Quest 2 all the time, and its speakers could fold flat to save space.

At $100, the Chorus will compete with the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap, which includes headphones and a head strap.

This device was created for HTC’s Vive series, but 3D printing and retail adapters have made it compatible with Meta and Oculus headsets, among others.

It was still sold after the headsets it was made for were taken off the market because it was comfortable and the sound quality was good.

Logitech’s chorus doesn’t have a head strap, but it may appeal to people upset with HTC’s audio. I still use the Deluxe Audio Strap on my Quest 2, although I’ve switched to earphones.

During Beat Saber or Space Pirate Trainer sessions, the bundled headphones kept falling out.

We’ll see if the chorus does better when it’s released in the coming weeks.
