Twitter tests new recommendations for user feeds

  • The company is following the lead of popular app TikTok, which uses AI to provide recommendations.
  • Twitter is also adding an X button for tweet recommendations to speed up timeline deletion and feedback.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the best social media apps are all working hard to change their algorithms so that the best content shows up in users’ feeds. Getting ideas from TikTok has become so popular that everyone does it. Even Twitter has jumped on the trend.

The corporation just went public with plans to improve content recommendations. They want to show people what they like to increase app views and engagement.

Twitter intends to keep people engaged with their screens like they are with TikTok’s app. Meta’s attempt has failed.

We no longer use social graph metrics to determine what people enjoy. TikTok uses AI to provide recommendations.

The firm highlighted its efforts to give people recommendations on their feeds and to give them greater power. When users are happy, the app makes money.

The app says these are individualised recommendations based on your app’s behaviour or signals.

Your hobbies and favourite topics are unlimited. You can also tweet, which generates extra signals. Your network’s favourite tweets also matter. Your recommendations look like this overall.

This app’s recommended content isn’t as prominent as in Meta’s top apps. In 2017, Twitter tried but failed. It’s taking deliberate steps now.

Twitter understands its in-app algorithms aren’t great, so it’s making some changes to provide users with material they love.

The company also wants to personalise its Spaces Tab. By adding new stations and subcategories, users may tell the app what they like.

In the same way, Spaces hosts will be told to add topics to their chats.

We find it weird that an app asks a user what they enjoy instead of manually analysing app usage.

Twitter is adding an X button for tweet recommendations. This permits faster timeline deletion and feedback.

We don’t know how effective the app will be, but its Explore page lacks personalisation.
