Gmail End-to-End Encryption Beta Expands to Workspace Users. The company’s encryption technology adds an extra degree of security to emails and files sent over the Internet. Google said last year that it would bring client-side encryption software to market by providing users control over the encryption keys and who will have access to their data. The service has stated that additional customers will be able to apply to beta-test the feature.

Google said in a blog post that it is increasing beta access to its client-side encryption (CSE) in Gmail on the Web for select Google Workspace Enterprise and Education clients.

Google Drive, Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Google Meet, and Google Calendar currently support a beta version of CSE. Google Drive received the feature in 2021.

According to the firm, qualifying customers of Google Workspace Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, and Education Standard can apply to join in beta testing through Google’s help centre until January 20 of next year. When the feature is available, users will be able to enable end-to-end encryption by selecting a padlock button when writing an email.

“Google Workspace already encrypts all data at rest and in transit between our facilities using the latest cryptographic standards,” Google noted. This means that, while Google encrypts user data as it goes to the business’s servers, the firm has access to the data’s contents. CSE eliminates consumer privacy issues by ensuring that only the sender and receiver have access to the encryption keys.

Meanwhile, Google introduced improved fraud detection algorithms for its UPI-based payment tool Google Pay on Monday, as part of the search giant’s attempts to make digital payments in the country more secure. A new Google Pay feature will employ multi-layered warnings to alert consumers in India of any suspicious activity on their accounts. To safeguard customers from fraud on the payment platform, the app will utilise machine learning to highlight fraudulent activity or questionable payment requests and provide a warning to them.
