Microsoft is issuing the final cumulative updates of the year for Windows 11. Both the original release of Windows 11 and the most recent 22H2 version are receiving updates.

Released today, the update known as KB5021255 raises the version number of Windows 11 for 22H2 systems to 22621.963. If you’d like to manually install the update, you can do so by downloading it from this page.

The update’s shining feature is a correction for an issue where wrong colours would be displayed in the Task Manager, an issue that arose with the November-end optional update. Data Protection Application Programming Interface (DPAPI) decryption was also updated to address a problem that could have rendered VPN connections inoperable for some users.

Otherwise, all the modifications and fixes from the November optional update are here, but this time they’re required. Included in this update are subscription-wide visibility into your OneDrive storage and brand-new storage-related notifications for the Settings app.

Microsoft has consolidated Windows Spotlight’s global theme options into the Settings app’s Personalization tab. That means you can now select the Windows Spotlight theme and have your desktop backgrounds automatically rotate every day without having to manually change them (though you still have that option).

A lot more is included in the November update if you choose to install it, such as the ability to send and receive internal messages.
