2023 has just begun, there have already been rumours about the next iPhone, which is expected to be released later this year. Now, Jeff Pu of Haitong Intl Tech Research says that all iPhone models, especially the Apple iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, are likely to get major camera upgrades this year.

The iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15+

In a report that 9to5Mac saw, Jeff Pu talked about what he thought the iPhone 15 models would be like based on sources in the supply chain. Even though the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus were a letdown because they had almost the same hardware as the iPhone 13, Apple is said to be working on some great improvements for this year’s iPhones.

For example, both the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus are now expected to have a 48-megapixel wide lens with three layers of sensors. At the moment, only the iPhone 14 Pro models have a 48-megapixel camera. But the midrange iPhone 15 models will still not have an optical zoom telephoto lens or a LiDAR scanner.

Pu says that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will have a USB-C port instead of a Lightning port and the same A16 Bionic chip that runs the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. This backs up earlier rumours that the iPhone 15 will get these same changes.

But since Apple wants people to buy the more expensive iPhones, it makes sense that the iPhone 15 Pro models will get even better upgrades. Apple will include a 12-megapixel periscope lens for the first time in the larger Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max, which some speculate will be called the iPhone 15 Ultra. This will allow optical zoom from even farther away.

According to a report by Ming-Chi Kuo, the new periscope lens will have a 6x optical zoom, while the telephoto lens will still have a 3x optical zoom. Also, both iPhone 15 Pro models are expected to have a new A17 chip made with 3-nanometer technology, 8GB of RAM, USB-C, and a titanium frame instead of a stainless steel one.

Pu also said that the virtual volume and power buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro will have haptic feedback, just like the Home button on the iPhone SE. Both the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Pro will have screens that are 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches, just like the current iPhones.

The analyst also says that Apple plans to start selling the iPhone 15 on September 23.
