Meta is apparently testing a new Messenger feature from within. You could view what everyone in a group chat is doing using their front and back cameras thanks to a Messenger Roll Call feature. Similar to the private version of BeReal that was discovered on Instagram last year, a more developed version has now surfaced in Messenger.

The feature is an internal prototype that is not being tested externally, which is worth noting. However, don’t worry, according to Meta spokesperson Liz Sweeney. There are a few screenshots that give us a sense of how it might work. Will it ever be added to Messenger or other Meta apps? Users in a Messenger group chat will have five minutes to respond to a roll call with their own pictures, according to Navarra’s post.

You should know that the person starting the roll call can add personalized prompts to ask for pictures of people’s pets or lunches. Users would have to post their own roll call submissions before they could view those of other users, just like in BeReal.

But this isn’t the first time we’ve noticed social media juggernaut Meta working on a function that functions exactly like BeReal. Meta revealed in December that it was testing a feature for Instagram called Candid Stories. You will receive a daily notification from this feature reminding you to publish a candid post, which other users won’t be able to see until they publish a candid post of their own. The business acknowledged developing a comparable feature for Facebook Stories.

In actuality, Messenger appears to be a little different because it’s designed more for private groups than for public posts. So let’s wait and see until a worldwide notification is issued in regards to a feature like BeReal.
