Tecno is making a splash at the Mobile World Congress with the introduction of its innovative Chameleon Coloring Technology. When installed in a device, such as the back of a smartphone, it may generate a vast range of color patterns with a single button press.

Chameleon Coloring Technology is a full-spectrum electrically controlled prism coloring technology that uses a grid of sub-micron prism material that changes orientation in response to an electric field. The material can scatter light in many wavelengths by accurately adjusting the direction of the prism, giving the impression of a wide range of iridescent hues.

To be clear, the substance is not a display and emits no light. It scatters light off its surface instead, coloring it in the process.

The sub-micron prism arrangement may be adjusted manually via the device software, allowing you to choose from a total of 1600 different colors, or potentially change automatically based on battery state, music, or notifications. This can be done up to 2 million times, making it quite long-lasting even with several changes throughout the day.

Colors can be changed in 0.03 seconds. It also consumes very little power, with 100 changes in a day costing the same amount of electricity as watching a 5-minute video.

Color-changing backs are nothing new to Tecno. The Techno Camon 19 Pro Mondrian Edition was released last year, and it employed polychromatic photoisomer technology for the back panel, which changed colors when exposed to UV rays from sunlight.
